Duty of Care

The Federation is a non-hands on organisation. It is not involved in diver training and does not have its own Instructors.

Clubs that are affiliated to the Federation belong to their own Governing/Training Organisation i.e. BSAC, CFT, and SAA, and as such, each Affiliated Club is therefore bound by the Childcare Guide Policy as enforced by their own Organisation (see below).

In order to comply with the Sports Council For N.I. requirements the Federation amended its Constitution to include the following statement -

"It is a condition of membership that each Affiliated Club agrees to adhere to the Childcare Guide Policy as laid down by their own respective Governing/Training Organisation, and that a clause is inserted into their own club's constitution to reflect this"

Drug Abuse

Again in order to comply with the Sports Council For N.I. requirements on drug abuse the Federation will propose at the next A.G.M. that the Federation's Constitution be amended to include-

"It is a condition of membership that each Affiliated Club agrees to adhere to the Drug Abuse Policy (if any) as laid down by their own respective Governing/Training Organisation, and that a clause is inserted into their own club's constitution to reflect this"

Clubs will have to produce a copy of their Constitution (or Memorandum and Articles of Association) as proof of complying with both of the above by December 2002.

Sample Declarations for Club Constitutions

The British Sub Aqua Club (BSAC)

"It is a condition of Membership that each Member agrees to adhere to the Child Protection, and Drug Abuse, policies as laid down by the BSAC and with those principles as contained therein".

The Irish Underwater Council (CFT)

"It is a condition of Membership that each member agrees to adhere to the "Code of Ethics and Good Practice for Children's Sport in Ireland", and to the Drug Abuse policy as laid down by CFT and with those principles as contained therein".

The Sub Aqua Association (SAA)

"It is a condition of Membership that each Member agrees to adhere to the Child Protection, and Drug Abuse, policies as laid down by the SAA and with those principles as contained therein".

Sample Equality Declarations for Club Constitutions

Application for Membership shall be open to anyone regardless of their age, sex, race, religion or disability, provided (a) they pass a Diving Medical as specified by the BSAC (or CFT or SAA), (b) their admission does not contravene the Articles as contained in our Constitution, and (c) their application has the approval of the Committee.
